Chapter 39
High above the Kaqisha Continent, a massive wild-grown floating island drifted silently through the sky.
At the island's very center stood an enormous dragon statue, its great wings spread wide as if poised to take flight.
The sculpture was so lifelike it inspired awe in all who beheld it.
There weren't many dragons on Dragon Island, which made it feel like a secluded, little town.
Today, the Dragon Island post office unexpectedly received a letter from the Adventure Forest on the Kaqisha Continent.
The dragon in charge of the post office was Granduncle Wilis, a green dragon. He adjusted his spectacles and read the recipient's name on the envelope.
"Black dragon... Miss Afra."
The moment he saw that name, Wilis was surprised, so he picked up his astrolabe to contact Afra.
"Afra, there's a letter here for you. Come pick it up before eight tonight!"
...
"Wilis, where's my letter?" Afra arrived just before eight o'clock and came straight to the point.
Wilis handed the letter to Afra, about to say something, but watched as Afra simply said "Thanks" and vanished on the spot.
Wilis shook his head helplessly. "Honestly..."
Afra teleported back to her castle in an instant, staring at the letter in her hand with some confusion. "Who would write to me?"
Curious, Afra tore open the letter and skimmed through it, only to catch the signature at the end.
"Chrisley!" The name jogged Afra's memory.
It was a long time ago, before Dragon Island had cut itself off from the world, when Afra had descended from the island and met a witch on the Kaqisha Continent.
Back then, young and hot-blooded Afra had gone around picking fights with everyone the moment she set foot on the mainland. Thanks to the innate talent of dragonkind, Afra had swept through opponents everywhere without a single defeat.
It was around that time that the name of the Wood Witch Chrisley reached Afra's ears.
Chrisley was hailed as the strongest witch of that era, unmatched in healing arts and formidable in combat.
So Afra went searching everywhere for Chrisley, finally tracking her down in the heart of the Adventure Forest.
Afra immediately challenged Chrisley to a duel, but was turned down flat by the uninterested Chrisley.
It was only after Afra promised a series of favors that the two could finally face off.
Afra would never forget the shock and thrill of being casually defeated by Chrisley.
Afra left behind the things she had promised, along with a letter that could be sent to Dragon Island at any time, and chose to return to the island to continue her training.
By the time Afra had more or less completed her cultivation and was itching to go back down to challenge Chrisley again, she discovered that Dragon Island had suddenly been sealed off. The Flame Dragon Queen did not easily permit dragons on the island to leave.
And so a few hundred years had passed. Afra had almost forgotten that name, never expecting this letter to bring those nearly buried memories rushing back to life.
"Is she looking for a rematch?" Afra excitedly read through the letter carefully from the beginning, only to find that the gist of it was that Chrisley's apprentice had opened a shop and wanted to establish a teleportation array to Dragon Island.
Afra was a little disappointed. "What, so she wasn't looking for a rematch after all..."
As for Chrisley's mention of her apprentice running a shop and establishing a teleportation array, Afra planned to go talk to the Flame Dragon Queen about it tomorrow.
After all, one of the conditions promised during their original duel was that the loser had to grant the winner one request.
But Afra felt the chances of success were very slim, since Dragon Island was sealed off after all.
"Still, I really want to fight Chrisley again..." Afra sighed.
"Forget it, I'll think about it tomorrow." Afra slumped over the table.
The next day, Afra went straight to the Flame Dragon Queen's castle, and without any obstruction, came before the Flame Dragon Queen Yanshajia.
Yanshajia looked at her mischievous, troublemaking disciple and rubbed her temples with a headache.
"Afra, what do you need from me?" Yanshajia glanced down at the documents in her hands and asked calmly.
"Teacher, have you heard about a shop called Keke Shop that recently appeared on the Kaqisha Continent?" Faced with her teacher's serious expression, Afra couldn't help but feel nervous and instinctively tried to change the subject.
To her surprise, Yanshajia showed a hint of astonishment. "You've heard of Keke Shop?"
After the surprise, Yanshajia's expression grew even more serious. "Afra, did you secretly leave the island?"
"No, no, do I look like someone who breaks the rules?" Afra quickly waved her hands.
Yanshajia fell silent at that, then changed the subject. "Fine, I believe you. Then how did you find out?"
Afra recounted the contents of the letter to Yanshajia.
"Chrisley is the one who beat you black and blue, then made you come crying back to Dragon Island demanding I teach you more powerful spells." Yanshajia recalled as well.
At the mention of that, Afra's face flushed red, and she hurriedly stopped her teacher from continuing that topic.
"Alright, since you're familiar with it, I'll send you down to check out this shop." Yanshajia smiled slightly.
Afra accepted with some surprise.
Yanshajia then explained, "According to intelligence, this Keke Shop appeared not long ago, but it has already established connections with the Human Empire, the Beastman Kingdom, and the Elf Forest."
"It's very much like that prophecy..." Yanshajia murmured quietly.
Afra stood by listening. "So does Dragon Island also want to establish a teleportation array with Keke Shop?"
Yanshajia nodded slightly. "So you go check things out first."
"Got it!"
"That'll be all. You may take your leave." Seeing that Afra had nothing else, Yanshajia raised her hand dismissively.
...
As for the happenings on Dragon Island, the people of the Kaqisha Continent had yet to learn of them. Everyone was absorbed in their own affairs.
After enjoying a leisurely break, Rao Ke suddenly began to ponder her upgrade quest. Since completing the last one, she hadn't triggered a new upgrade quest for about half a month.
"Sigh..."
"Sigh..."
Rao Ke and Sesame Paste sighed at the same time.
Rao Ke looked at Sesame Paste. "What's wrong? Why are you sighing?"
"According to the data I received, the calamity is about to escalate again." Sesame Paste shared the news with Rao Ke.
Rao Ke was taken aback. "Didn't it just level up not long ago?"
"And this time, the calamity is immune to magic." Sesame Paste continued.
"But the main system has developed and provided an upgraded magical artifact. That said, the host will need to complete a new collection quest."
Rao Ke, upon hearing this, said, "I was just sighing because I don't know how to trigger a new upgrade quest."
No sooner had she spoken than a message notification appeared.
