Get In. I Won't Say It a Third Time
Lin Meng had been suspicious at first, but then she reconsidered. Yun Huaizhu was rushing to meet Su Yutang tonight, and she hated Su Yutang so much now. It made sense she'd take a drive around to psych herself up.
Just like that, Lin Meng followed Yun Huaizhu's route and circled the city once. By the time she reached the same destination as Yun Huaizhu, the taxi fare had come to two hundred and fifty.
Lin Meng gritted her teeth against the sting. After all, she had something important to do tonight; a little money like this was nothing.
Money spent could be earned back by working, but if she didn't keep an eye on Yun Huaizhu tonight, Yun Huaizhu would suffer permanent physical harm.
Lin Meng looked at the red dot on her phone and finally decided to follow Yun Huaizhu from fifty meters back. But what she hadn't expected was that Yun Huaizhu was heading to Jing City's most prosperous and affluent district, where security was extremely strict. There was simply no way she could sneak in after her.
Lin Meng was stopped outside the villa. At that, she immediately put her earphones back on.
She had taken them off earlier because she'd been staring at Yun Huaizhu's location the whole time. Though she couldn't enter the villa, she could hear what Yun Huaizhu and Su Yutang were saying. The moment she sensed something off, she would call the police. She had even prepared her lines for contacting the paparazzi and saved them in her phone's notes.
Meanwhile, a sound like plastic bags rubbing together came through the earphones. It grated on Lin Meng's ears, but she gritted her teeth and kept listening.
…
Yun Huaizhu arrived at the villa's entrance. She knew that at times like this, Su Yutang would clear everyone out of the villa; no one would know what happened here.
She took a deep breath, then walked in, her steps stiff.
But just as she stepped through the inner door, the lights in the villa's living room went out with a snap. She panicked briefly—she didn't know what Su Yutang would do next. But no matter what that person wanted to do to her, she couldn't run now. She forced herself to stay calm and walked deeper in.
Just as she was about to reach the center of the living room, the crystal chandelier hanging three stories high above the spiral staircase blazed with piercing light, and Su Yutang appeared before her like a ghost. "Surprise!"
When Yun Huaizhu saw her face, she struggled to control her expression.
She didn't know how long Su Yutang had been waiting there—not a sound, not even a breath. She really had nothing better to do.
Seeing that Yun Huaizhu hadn't given her the reaction she'd expected, the prankish smile vanished from Su Yutang's face. "You've been boring this entire time. Since you're already mine, you should at least know how to please me, shouldn't you?"
Yun Huaizhu's mouth twitched, and she finally forced out a stiff smile. "So, Eldest Miss Su, how would you like me to do it?"
The sight of her ugly expression improved Su Yutang's mood considerably. She walked slowly over to the red curtain in the living room. "Given how obedient you've been today, your master has prepared a gift for you."
At that, Yun Huaizhu clenched her fists, her nails nearly digging into her palms.
With that, Su Yutang yanked the cloth off the glass cage. Perhaps Yun Huaizhu could have controlled her expression before, but the moment she saw the cage, a flash of fury crossed her face. "What's the meaning of this?"
Hearing the change in Yun Huaizhu's tone, Su Yutang laughed behind her hand. "Your entire Yun family depends on me to survive now; aren't you all my dogs? Of course you're one too—a cute, pretty little dog. So naturally I had to build you a beautiful cage. What do you think? Do you like it?"
Yun Huaizhu trembled with rage. "You—"
Meanwhile, outside the villa district, Lin Meng couldn't help but squint and click her tongue in amazement at those words—worthy of the novel's phoenix; even her speech had that domineering CEO flavor. But Yun Huaizhu was about to go through differentiation now, wasn't she? Or should she wait until Yun Huaizhu entered the cage before calling the police?
The expression on Yun Huaizhu's face—wanting to kill her but unable to—delighted Su Yutang immensely. She knew Yun Huaizhu was hard to train, which was why she had all the time in the world to play with her little pet.
Su Yutang smiled in satisfaction. "Get in."
Yun Huaizhu jerked her head up and glared at her. "Don't go too far!"
At that, Su Yutang's smile faded by half. Her tone was dangerous, a clear warning: "Get in. I won't say it a third time."
Yun Huaizhu bit down hard on her lower lip. After a moment of inner struggle, she finally walked toward the cage like a puppet whose movements hadn't yet turned fluid.
Su Yutang gave her an approving look. Outside the villa district, Lin Meng's heart clenched as if caught in a grip.
Reading a novel and listening to a radio drama felt somewhat different; in reality, both Yun Huaizhu's and Su Yutang's voices were pleasant, especially Su Yutang's—the moment she spoke, she had a captivating, seductive air.
Lin Meng was more immersed now than she had been while reading the novel.
Just as Yun Huaizhu was about to step into the cage, Su Yutang's phone suddenly rang. Yun Huaizhu stopped in her tracks.
Irritation flooded Su Yutang's face at having her fun interrupted. She grabbed at her hair, then answered the phone. "Hello."
As soon as she spoke, a middle-aged woman's voice, staticky but dignified and steady, came through. "What's going on with you lately? I've heard you've started playing with those unsavory things again. You're twenty-two this year; it's time you learned to be stable."
Though the voice on the other end was broken and intermittent, Su Yutang still understood what she meant. "I know. If Mother agrees to cut the alpha gland out of my body, then I'll learn to be stable and sensible."
"What nonsense are you spouting now? You're an S-rank alpha! Do you know how rare an alpha of your level is worldwide? I'm only advising you to rein yourself in, and you talk back to me—you—zzzt—I am—bzzzt…"
Hearing the voice cutting in and out from the other end, Su Yutang frowned deeply. "The signal's bad here. I can't hear you. I'm hanging up."
After hanging up, Su Yutang walked up to Yun Huaizhu, her face full of suspicion. She looked Yun Huaizhu over from head to toe.
This was a villa district with a level-four security system; her calls had never once had signal interruptions before. And this had only started after Yun Huaizhu entered.
She remembered that when she'd called Yun Huaizhu today, the signal on Yun Huaizhu's end hadn't been good either.
Just then, Su Yutang noticed the pair of peridot earrings on Yun Huaizhu's ears.
