Chapter 95
“……”
Ran Qingqing said, “Kid, curse her for me.”
Ran Qingqing scratched the short-legged corgi in her arms. The corgi went, “Woof.”
“……”
Was she being ganged up on by both a person and a dog now? She didn’t even know what her son looked like yet. By seniority, this dog counted as her son.
But to be fair, this was indeed Lin Yuewei’s fault. She coaxed her mother for ages, yet Ran Qingqing’s answer remained as unshakable as a mountain: “We’re severing our mother-daughter relationship. Who are you? I don’t know you. I suggest you be a good person, or I’m calling the police.”
“Mom…”
“Oh, I really don’t know you. Whose random number is this? An ad? I’m blocking it.”
Lin Yuewei pulled out her trump card. She took a deep breath and said, “...Don’t you want to know how I got together with Gu Yanqiu?”
“Ten minutes of restoring our mother-daughter relationship,” Ran Qingqing said. “Confess.”
Lin Yuewei dangled that in front of her first and asked, “Where’s Dad?”
“What are you asking about your dad for? Confess first, then we’ll talk.” Ran Qingqing wasn’t biting on her diversion tactic.
“Isn’t Dad my real dad? Don’t I deserve to tell him about such a major life event?”
“I’ll tell him later. Why are you so full of excuses now?”
“Mom.”
Lin Yuewei’s voice suddenly turned serious, carrying a hint of eerie chill; it startled Ran Qingqing. “Are you not hoping for anything good for your mom? You scared my grandson.”
“Is Dad at home, or is he away on a business trip?”
Ran Qingqing snorted through her nose. “Business trip. Otherwise why would I say I’d tell him later?”
“Oh.” Lin Yuewei gave her a brief summary of how she and Gu Yanqiu had ended up together. After listening, Ran Qingqing asked, “Anything else?”
“No.”
“Fine. Then we’re continuing to sever our mother-daughter relationship.” Ran Qingqing hung up with startling speed after getting what she wanted.
With the busy tone still sounding in her ear, Lin Yuewei didn’t keep pestering her mother. Instead, she turned around and called her father.
Lin’s father was surprised to get her call. In most Chinese families, the mother was the one who kept in touch with the children, while the father was a walking ATM; Lin Yuewei’s family was no exception. Besides, her parents were usually together anyway, so it didn’t matter who she called. She’d always dialed Ran Qingqing’s number.
Her father asked, “Trouble?” Usually, that was the only reason Lin Yuewei ever called him.
“No, Dad. I just spoke to Mom.”
“Mm.” There was a very brief pause in Lin’s father’s voice; he only said that one word, waiting for her to continue, and for once he sounded faintly cold.
Once suspicion took root, Lin Yuewei couldn’t help thinking in another direction. Was her father afraid that if he said too much, he’d slip up, so he deliberately kept silent?
She chose her words carefully. “I was just chatting with Mom on WeChat and asked about you. She complained to me that you got home very late today.”
“Is that so?” Lin’s father paused, then said with a smile, “Then I’ll go coax her.”
“Have you been busy lately?” Lin Yuewei asked.
“I’m all right. Isn’t it always like this?” Lin’s father loosened his tie and looked out at the night beyond the window.
“Still going on business trips?”
“Pretty much.” His answer was vague.
“Do you know Mom keeps a dog now?”
Lin’s father said, “I know. She named it Grandson. I told her to change it, but she wouldn’t. She said if she couldn’t wait for a grandson from you, she’d enjoy being a grandma first.”
“My mom really has too much free time.” Lin Yuewei laughed.
Lin’s father laughed too. “As long as she likes it.”
“Then I’m fine. I just wanted to tell you to take care of yourself.”
“Thank you, my good daughter.”
“Bye, Dad.”
“Bye. Come home sometime when you’re free; let me know in advance.”
“Mm, good night.”
“Good night.”
Lin Yuewei stared at the disconnected call for a long while without moving, a sharp glint sinking into her eyes. One of her parents was lying. Ran Qingqing said her father was on a business trip, while when she asked him, Lin’s father clearly implied he was at home. So who was telling the lie?
***
The phone in Gu Yanqiu’s bag rang with a dedicated ringtone.
Her ears twitched; she removed her eye mask and took the phone out from the side of her bag.
Lin Zhi glanced at her through the rearview mirror. Over this period of time, he’d finally figured it out: that special ringtone belonged to Gu Yanqiu’s mysterious someone. Every time he heard it, no matter what Gu Yanqiu was doing, she would definitely answer first.
“What’s wrong?” Gu Yanqiu rolled down the car window and brushed back her long hair, letting the cold wind on her face clear her slightly tipsy head after all the drinking she’d done at the dinner engagement.
Lin Zhi clicked his tongue inwardly. As expected, a partner was different; even the way she spoke had to be at least ten thousand times gentler.
“Were you asleep?” Lin Yuewei’s voice sounded a little hoarse.
“Just finished an engagement dinner. I’m on my way home.”
“You drank?”
“Not much. Just a little.”
“Go to sleep early when you get back; lock the doors and windows.”
Lin Yuewei had been with her for a while now. Though they saw each other far less than they wanted, she knew Gu Yanqiu got sleepy after drinking. Sometimes, when she came home late from social obligations, she would turn especially soft, letting Lin Yuewei pinch her face and hands as she pleased.
Gu Yanqiu laughed when she heard that. “What kind of instruction is that? As if someone might sneak in at night.” Their neighborhood was full of tycoons, officials, and celebrities; if someone could get in there, the company might as well shut its doors.
Lin Yuewei said, “I’m worried about you. A child travels a thousand miles...”
Gu Yanqiu laughed. “Stop right there. Don’t get cute at my expense.”
Lin Yuewei had called for something serious, but talking with Gu Yanqiu, she gradually lost the urge to bring it up. They bantered for a while until Lin Zhi had already driven them home. Gu Yanqiu got out of the car and walked toward the door through the mottled shadows of swaying moonlit trees.
“Is there something important you want to ask me?” Gu Yanqiu lowered her head to press her fingerprint on the lock and asked directly.
The main door clicked open. Gu Yanqiu lifted a hand and pulled it wide.
Lin Yuewei laughed helplessly on the other end. “You really didn’t miss it.”
Gu Yanqiu smiled. “Go ahead. You don’t have to be polite with me.”
It wasn’t hard for Gu Yanqiu to guess. Lin Yuewei was someone who hated wasting time. Though they were a couple, every call had a time limit; the two of them kept an eye on the clock and reminded each other. Only when they had plenty of time would they wander off topic.
This was Lin Yuewei’s first drama. She studied every day like a sponge absorbing new knowledge; there was never enough time to spare. So a call that stretched to nearly half an hour was obviously off.
“My mom said you go to my house every few days?”
“Not every few days. About twice a week. I’ve been busy this week, so maybe I’ll go once on the weekend.”
“Did you notice anything off?”
“Off?” Gu Yanqiu hung up her coat on the standing rack by the door; with one hand holding the phone and the other unbuttoning her shirt collar, she walked toward the living room sofa. “What kind of off do you mean?”
“Just...” Lin Yuewei hesitated, then asked the question in a voice that was still a little hard to get out, “My parents. Is there anything off about them?”
“I... don’t know how they got along before, so I can’t tell what’s off. Did you notice anything?” Gu Yanqiu sat down. The leather sofa gave a faint creak. She pressed her aching brow; Lin Yuewei’s voice already sounded far away.
Gu Yanqiu had drunk a lot tonight, not just a little. If she hadn’t rested in the car for a while, her legs would have been unsteady now.
Lin Yuewei hadn’t noticed that. She said, “Tonight I called them separately. My mom said my dad was on a business trip, but my dad said he was at home, so I’ve got this bad feeling. Could their relationship be having some kind of problem?”
“Don’t jump to conclusions. Maybe they just argued.”
“I’ve never seen them argue before.”
“So it doesn’t mean they never argue. Didn’t I tell you before that some occasional disagreement is good for a marriage?”
Gu Yanqiu’s comfort did nothing. Lin Yuewei’s intuition had never been this strong. After a long, hesitant silence, she took a deep breath and pushed out the suspicion she’d been afraid to voice: “I suspect my mother is cheating.”
Gu Yanqiu: “???”
Gu Yanqiu: “……”
For a moment, she lost the ability to speak.
“Actually, I’d already prepared myself for the possibility, so...” Just saying that one sentence drained away most of Lin Yuewei’s strength. She sat on the bed, one hand braced against the mattress, and said with difficulty, “I want to ask you, next time you go to my house, could you help me keep an eye on things?”
“Okay.” Gu Yanqiu paused, then said, “Even if something really happened between them, it won’t change how they feel about you. Everyone has their own life. And in the end, you still have me.”
“I know.” Lin Yuewei murmured, “Of course I know.”
She just couldn’t quite accept it.
Lin Yuewei’s fingers tightened on the bedsheet, then loosened again. “I’m going to study.”
“Wait.”
“What is it?”
Gu Yanqiu hung up and sent her a video request on WeChat. Lin Yuewei answered; her puzzled face appeared on the screen. Gu Yanqiu stared at her for a moment, then relaxed and said, “I was afraid you’d cry in secret.”
Lin Yuewei: “……”
What the hell? Was that how fragile she looked in Gu Yanqiu’s eyes?
Lin Yuewei flailed wildly in front of the camera and said dramatically, “Let me tell you, keep this up and you’re very easy to lose me.”
Gu Yanqiu: “Hahaha.”
Lin Yuewei said fiercely, “I’m going to study.”
Gu Yanqiu’s eyes curved. “Go on.”
Lin Yuewei pulled the phone camera closer, puckered her lips upward, and hung up in a flash.
Gu Yanqiu: “!!”
What had she just seen?
[Xi Gu: Did you just kiss-kiss?]
[Two Woods: Sorry, the message you sent is temporarily unavailable for review. Please resend later.]
Gu Yanqiu: “……”
Treating herself like customer service; not bad.
After that tease-and-run, Lin Yuewei made up her mind not to reply to her messages. Gu Yanqiu sent a few more before going upstairs to wash up. She kept Lin Yuewei’s request in mind. This week, she had already told Ran Qingqing she might not be able to make it over; at most, she’d go once on the weekend. It seemed she would have to make time no matter what. Fortunately, they were in the same city. If they’d been somewhere else, there would have been nothing she could do even if she wanted to.
Lin Yuewei still had some things she wasn’t telling Gu Yanqiu. She suspected her mother had some connection to Shen Huaiyu. That could be big or small; if it was false, that would be best, just a false alarm. If it was true, then she’d tell Gu Yanqiu later, so as not to cause unnecessary trouble.
Each of them had their own battlefield. Lin Yuewei spent day and night filming and studying on set, having no idea what day it was outside. Gu Yanqiu was run ragged for the company, keeping an eye on the Lin parents’ abnormal behavior while waiting for news from Mr. Liu.
More than a month passed in the blink of an eye. Shao Yasi’s Mirror in the Palm was filmed before Lin Yuewei’s project, and as soon as she wrapped, she rushed over to visit Lin Yuewei on set. Shao Yasi’s agent had some connections with the director and producer of Mist City, so she slipped in quietly.
Shao Yasi wore a baseball cap and mask, standing unobtrusively outside the center of the set, her eyes fixed on the stage without blinking, her gaze at Lin Yuewei practically shining.
Her agent flicked the back of her head and reminded her in a low voice, “Are you trying to make it impossible for her not to notice you? Didn’t you say you wanted to surprise her?”
Shao Yasi nodded furiously, then finally looked away.
She pulled down her mask and stuck out her tongue at her own agent.
The taut corners of her agent’s mouth softened at once; she gave a helpless, indulgent smile.
Yang Xiao said, “Cut; passed.”
Lin Yuewei stepped down from before the camera and took the water Wang Yuanyuan handed her. After drinking two mouthfuls, someone suddenly tapped her on the shoulder. Lin Yuewei suppressed her reflexive counterstrike; Wang Yuanyuan had already moved in, shielding her and pulling her behind her as she looked warily at the person in front of them, who was hiding most of their face under a cap and mask, leaving only a pair of eyes visible.
Those were a pair of lively, almond-shaped eyes that looked exactly like those of a proper young lady from a refined family.
Lin Yuewei froze for a moment; then amusement bloomed in her peach blossom eyes. She lowered Wang Yuanyuan’s hand and said, “It’s fine. She’s my friend.”
Shao Yasi pulled down her mask and laughed loudly, doing a “dang dang dang dang” sound effect for herself. “Surprise!”
The two of them hugged each other tightly.
Wang Yuanyuan frowned, and on the face of the glasses-wearing woman in her early thirties who had stayed by Shao Yasi’s side the whole time, she saw the same expression of disgust she herself was wearing.
Old friends had too much to say after a long separation. Lin Yuewei still had scenes left to shoot today, so she apologized to Shao Yasi. “I might not be free until evening.”
Shao Yasi waved it off without the slightest concern. “I’m free all day today. I’ll just wait for you here.”
“Th-” Lin Yuewei hadn’t even finished when Shao Yasi’s agent cut in coldly, “You still need to eat lunch.”
This was the first time Lin Yuewei had met Shao Yasi’s agent. She was very tall, probably over 175 centimeters. Her features weren’t especially outstanding, but together they were very pleasing to the eye. She wore rimless glasses and looked somewhat severe; every inch of her gave off a big, bold “elite” aura.
Lin Yuewei had heard about her from Chen Xuan. The agency Shao Yasi was with had originally been a small company. It was this woman, single-handedly, who had built up its reputation, allowing it to slowly grow into the medium-sized firm it was today.
Shao Yasi said, “I can just eat boxed lunch on set.” She lifted the work pass hanging at her chest and tilted her head adorably. “Doesn’t this include boxed lunch?”
Her agent said flatly, “No.”
Shao Yasi ran over and shook her arm. “Come on, Hanhan.”
Lin Yuewei: “!!”
Hanhan???
Wang Yuanyuan was also stunned. She had rarely seen an artiste so lacking in boundaries with their agent. And judging by the face she’d seen just now, this artiste didn’t seem familiar; she probably wasn’t some big star.
Shao Yasi’s agent looked so exasperated she could barely stand it as she pulled her arm free, barely holding the line. “No. Boxed lunches aren’t healthy.”
Shao Yasi couldn’t win against her in the end. At last, she said helplessly to Lin Yuewei, “Then I’ll go out for lunch and come back later.”
Lin Yuewei said, “...Okay.”
What else could she say?
Shao Yasi huffed at her agent, then dragged Lin Yuewei aside to whisper.
Lin Yuewei was still reeling from Shao Yasi’s attitude toward her agent, so she had no choice but to let her gossip instincts run wild a little. “Do you always get along with your agent like this?”
Lin Yuewei imagined that if she called Chen Xuan “Xuanxuan,” Chen Xuan would probably come over with a hammer and beat her over the head with it.
Shao Yasi said very naively and sincerely, “Yeah.”
Lin Yuewei clicked her tongue. “Then your agent is really easy to talk to.”
Shao Yasi shook her head and said earnestly, “No, she’s especially hard to deal with today.”
Lin Yuewei raised an eyebrow. “How so?”
Shao Yasi said, “Like with things she usually doesn’t agree to, if I just shake her arm twice, she definitely agrees. But today she just wouldn’t say yes, and she was really fierce to me.”
Lin Yuewei: “???”
Lin Yuewei almost thought something was wrong with her own eyes. “She was fierce to you just now?”
Shao Yasi said, “Mm-hmm.”
Lin Yuewei was speechless.
There were some people—like Shao Yasi—who were simply born lucky. Other people could only look on in envy. In the show, she had Lin Yuewei helping her plan her next move; once she was off the show, she had her agent shielding her. She was spoiled to the point of lawlessness, and to her, even a stern look counted as being “fierce.”
Lin Yuewei changed the topic. “How have things been in that production? Didn’t you say before that people were isolating you?”
Shao Yasi narrowed her eyes and smiled. “Once you get used to it, it’s fine. Hanhan—oh, that’s my agent—somehow used a method that improved the filming atmosphere afterward. She’s really amazing.”
She sighed, bringing up the old matter again. “If only you’d signed with me back then.”
Lin Yuewei couldn’t help comparing. “My agent is pretty amazing too. She’s arranged a lot of resources for me.”
Shao Yasi’s expression turned excited. “Really? Then can I hug your thigh in the future?”
Lin Yuewei copied her and got excited too. “I want to hug your thigh too.”
Shao Yasi moved her chair, stretched one long leg out, and said, “Go on then.”
Lin Yuewei hugged it and exaggerated, “What a thick golden thigh.”
Shao Yasi laughed until she nearly lost it.
The two of them chatted happily through the break. Wang Yuanyuan cast a distant glance over and felt the temperature around her drop even further. Looking around, she saw that only Shao Yasi’s agent was standing beside her, and the chill was coming from that woman’s body. Wang Yuanyuan silently took a few steps farther away.
“I just watched your scene. You’re already really good,” Shao Yasi praised sincerely.
“I’ve got to thank you for the lines you gave me at the beginning. They really inspired me a lot.”
“Given our friendship, let’s not do corporate mutual flattery. You know your own acting is good or bad, and it’s not really because of me.” Shao Yasi waved a hand.
“Then don’t praise me either. Don’t I know how far I am from you myself?”
“Hahaha.”
Talking about acting alone was boring; gossip was what really brought people closer. Shao Yasi waved Lin Yuewei over. Lin Yuewei leaned in.
Shao Yasi whispered in her ear, “How are you and your crush doing?”
Lin Yuewei: “……”
Last time she had told Shao Yasi she was already married, but Shao Yasi didn’t believe her at all. After thinking it over, Lin Yuewei gave a less explosive answer: “I’m already together with her.”
Shao Yasi said, “Mole-people shrieking.”
Lin Yuewei: “???”
What the heck? Was she even doing her own emoji commentary now?
Shao Yasi had a very reasonable explanation. “I’m right next to your ear right now. I was afraid screaming would scare you. So how did you two get together? Weren’t you still in one-sided crush territory before? Did something major happen?”
This kind of thing absolutely could not be heard by others, so the two of them whispered into each other’s ears.
“The day I left on my business trip, I missed her so much... I decided I’d confess when I got back, and then on the day I came home, I accidentally fell asleep on the sofa. I was half-asleep, and I felt like she was calling my name.” Lin Yuewei lowered her head a little shyly; even now, thinking back on that day still felt like a dream. “Her voice was so gentle that my bones almost melted. I opened my eyes in a daze, and then she kissed me.”
Shao Yasi couldn’t contain herself. “Aaaaaah, that’s so romantic!”
Lin Yuewei was smug beyond words, but she still had to wave a hand humbly. “Ah, it was okay.”
Shao Yasi was about to continue her mole-people screaming when she suddenly felt that her and Lin Yuewei’s eye level was no longer aligned. “Huh?” She looked back and found the collar of her shirt being pinched and lifted by her agent.
Her agent said, “Time to go out for lunch.”
Shao Yasi said, “It’s only eleven.”
Her agent said, “If we wait until later, there’ll be a queue. Go early.”
As Shao Yasi was being dragged away, she waved at Lin Yuewei. “I’ll come see you this afternoon.”
Lin Yuewei looked at her agent’s icy face behind her and didn’t dare make any expression at all.
Shao Yasi left.
Wang Yuanyuan let out a breath and came over to Lin Yuewei’s side, saying with lingering fear, “That agent is really terrifying. Even scarier than Sister Chen.”
“Is Sister Chen scary?” Lin Yuewei said. “Next time I see her, I’ll tell her you talked smack about her.”
Wang Yuanyuan wasn’t afraid of her at all. “Go ahead and say it.”
Lin Yuewei flicked her on the forehead. “You little brat, you're getting bolder and bolder.”
Wang Yuanyuan reached out and pinched her face in return. “Who are you calling little brat? I’m older than you by a few years.”
Lin Yuewei laughed. “Spare me, Sister Yuan.”
Wang Yuanyuan let go and lifted her chin. “I’ll spare your life today.”
Lin Yuewei cupped her hands and thanked her, just about to go look for her script again, when Wang Yuanyuan leaned in mysteriously and said, “When you were talking with Shao Yasi just now, Teacher Qu kept looking this way.”
“This way is...” Lin Yuewei had a feeling she wasn’t talking about herself.
“Your good friend’s agent.”
“...” Lin Yuewei widened her eyes. “Seriously?”
“Seriously.” Wang Yuanyuan said, “One hundred percent. She looked over several times; it can’t have been me she was looking at. Usually she doesn’t even look at me properly, except when I’m standing next to you.”
Wang Yuanyuan guessed, “Weiwei, do you think she saw that Shao Yasi’s agent has a bit of charm and decided to try collecting her too?”
Lin Yuewei’s brows shot up. Wang Yuanyuan knew she’d been getting along pretty well with Qu Xuesong lately, so she hastily added, “Just kidding, but Teacher Qu’s expression was really weird.”
“How weird?”
“Just... I don’t know how to describe it. It felt really complicated?”
“Even if they do have some relationship, it has nothing to do with us.” Lin Yuewei waved a hand at her to stop. “I’m going to read my script. Don’t bother me.”
Wang Yuanyuan muttered under her breath, “It really was weird...”
Before Lin Yuewei’s attention fully went into the script, one thought flashed quickly through her mind: when Shao Yasi had told her that Qin Li, the male lead of Mist City, and Qu Xuesong, the female lead, were both easy to get along with, she’d said that based on what she’d heard from her agent.
But saying that meant the two of them definitely had some kind of relationship still felt a little forced.
Lin Yuewei shoved the thought to the back of her mind and plunged headfirst back into the script.
Only after Shao Yasi and the others’ backs disappeared from view did Qu Xuesong withdraw her gaze. She unfolded a paper crane she’d just folded in her hand, tore it into scraps, and curved her lips up in a mocking smile.
It was already three in the afternoon when Shao Yasi reappeared on set. Lin Yuewei’s afternoon scenes didn’t go very smoothly; after lunch, they kept filming until five before she was done. After that she had no more scenes, and when she came down she gave Shao Yasi a slight bow. “Sorry to keep you waiting.”
“Didn’t wait long. I’ve been filming myself for too long; watching other people film occasionally is actually pretty relaxing, hahaha.” Shao Yasi smiled. “Especially when I watch you stuck on a scene, it reminds me of when I got scolded by the director. We share our suffering.”
Lin Yuewei reached out and pressed a hand on her amazingly thick hair. “Let’s go. Dinner’s on me.”
Wang Yuanyuan brought over Lin Yuewei’s coat. While putting it on, Lin Yuewei asked, “Where’s your agent?”
“She had something to do. Otherwise I would’ve come even later.”
“Then why didn’t she let you come earlier?”
“She didn’t say I couldn’t come. She just said there was nothing worth staying for on set, and told me to wait until you were done before coming over.”
“Your agent’s right.”
“Even you’re saying that? I just missed you, okay?” Shao Yasi said indignantly.
“Fine, fine, I was wrong.” Lin Yuewei took her wrist and asked, “Miss Shao, after traveling all this way, what do you feel like eating?”
“Anything. I haven’t been to N City before.”
That night, they picked a restaurant with a high rating on the app and ate there. When they came out, it was still early, so the two of them, along with Wang Yuanyuan, decided to wander around the mall. If Shao Yasi hadn’t come today, Lin Yuewei would have spent the night studying in the hotel anyway, so she might as well play host and accompany Shao Yasi around.
Both of them wore hats and masks, covering themselves tightly. They ran into a passing fan of Shao Yasi’s. The show had ended half a year ago now. Since then, Shao Yasi had had more exposure than Lin Yuewei, and her agent had started paving her road from the very beginning, so she now had more fans and a higher level of recognition than Lin Yuewei.
This passerby was very excited to meet Shao Yasi and shake her hand. As for the request for a photo and autograph, Shao Yasi declined politely.
That very night, this accidental fan posted the sneaked photo on Weibo, where it was discovered by the shipping fans of both sides. It was the first time the two had been seen in the same frame since the show ended, and the CP supertopic immediately held a meeting of mole-people, with people joking, “As long as you live long enough, the CP you ship will eventually be seen together in the same frame.”
During the show, the two fandoms had fought fiercely. After the show, Shao Yasi had been as busy as a spinning top, while Lin Yuewei hardly went on Weibo at all. Aside from the last time Shao Yasi helped repost Lin Yuewei’s new drama promotion, they had almost no interaction, and fans had been worried all along that their relationship had been affected by the fandom conflict. This time, they could finally put their minds at ease.
Actually, there were three people in the shot; Wang Yuanyuan was treated as a passerby and never got to have a name.
Shao Yasi only had one day off. After visiting Lin Yuewei on set, she and her agent left overnight for another city. The next morning, Shao Yasi posted the photo from her set visit with Lin Yuewei on Weibo and added the caption:
Shao Yasi V:
【Went to visit the set! Thanks to Miss Lin for the hospitality, my favorite bestie, keep fighting and keep filming, charge ahead [Mickey hearts][Mickey hearts][photos][photos][photos]……[photos][photos][photos]】
A full nine photos.
What could be sweeter than a ship getting fed by the source itself?
Nothing.
The CP fans of Lin-Shao spent a brief moment in dazed disbelief—“Am I dreaming?” After having stayed up all night yesterday and then getting hit with this huge surprise today, they immediately collapsed from the sugar rush.
As for Shao Yasi’s solo fans, most of them didn’t mention Lin Yuewei in that post at all. The emojis they used were all things like “I only favor you,” and their comments were all the same: “Love you,” “Charge ahead,” “Go for it.”
Fans who thought highly of themselves often had a misconception: that they could influence any of their idol’s behavior, and that as long as their voices were loud enough, the idol would act according to their “will.” In reality, that wasn’t how it worked. Either idols hid their friendships behind the scenes to avoid fan conflict, or they simply ignored the fighting and did as they pleased.
Shao Yasi was the latter, and she had the confidence to back it up. Not to mention that fans ranked far below friends in her heart, so what the fans said had no effect on her at all; and she was destined to walk a path that didn’t depend on fans for a living. The only people who could decide her relationship with Lin Yuewei were the two of them themselves.
Lin Yuewei soon reposted it.
Lin Yuewei V:
【Let’s charge together, bro! [doge]//Shao Yasi: Went to visit the set! Thanks to Miss Lin for the hospitality, my favorite bestie, keep fighting and keep filming, charge ahead [Mickey hearts][Mickey hearts][nine-grid]】
【Weiwei, Mama loves you!!!】
The solo fans on this side were just as focused on their own camp.
Faced with such obvious sugar, only the CP fans went insane; both sides’ solo fans acted as though nothing had happened.
But there was one person who couldn’t act as though nothing had happened.
The blogger with the ID “Lin Yuewei’s fan.” only posted two words, not even adding an emoji.
【Heh-heh】
Gu Yanqiu held herself back until after evening wrap before calling Lin Yuewei.
“Did Shao Yasi visit your set yesterday?”
Lin Yuewei was searching for a video online, earphones hooked over her ears. She answered offhandedly, “Mm. Why?”
“The internet says Lin-Shao is real.” Gu Yanqiu said.
Lin Yuewei clicked the mouse twice and checked the video length, then asked abruptly, “Last time you found out where your mom’s family came from; is your ancestral home in Shanxi?”
“No. My mom’s from the south.”
“So not Shanxi, huh? Then why do I smell something so sour? Where’s that sour smell coming from?” Lin Yuewei sniffed loudly on purpose.
Gu Yanqiu understood. She openly admitted, “I’m jealous. What are you going to do about it?”
“Do nothing.” Lin Yuewei muted the video first, then played it, smiling as she said, “You already know which pair is real, don’t you?”
“I do.”
“If you know, then why are you jealous?”
“I... can’t help it.” Gu Yanqiu admitted guiltily.
“It’s fine. A little jealousy doesn’t hurt. You’ll have plenty more to eat in the future.”
“……”
“Bah, what a mouth I’ve got.” Lin Yuewei dragged the progress bar on the video, then seemed to react to what she’d just said. “I didn’t mean it like that. It’s just... I don’t really know about this thing... it... um...”
Lin Yuewei grimaced as if in toothache, looking at the two people rolling around on the bed in the video.
What kind of nonsense had Jiang Congbi recommended her? There wasn’t the slightest aesthetic value in it.
She was speaking distractedly, and Gu Yanqiu finally couldn’t help raising her voice. “What exactly are you doing?”
Lin Yuewei felt guilty and snapped her laptop shut. Chewing on her own finger anxiously, she said, “N-nothing.”
Author’s Note:
This was the biggest development that night. Jiang Congbi’s 8T will be up first, ah. As for what happens next, let’s hear it in the next installment~
Lin gong, charge ahead!
