Ran Jie Is Terrifying
At that moment, an image flashed before her eyes.
She was sprawled on the ground, and everything above her neck was gone.
Where was her head?
Tu Ran broke out in a cold sweat, realizing instantly that her superpower was at work.
She had foreseen what would happen in the next five to ten minutes.
She was dead.
Her head had been severed and taken away, nowhere to be found.
Tu Ran suppressed her pounding heart, gripped her machine gun tightly, and scanned her surroundings warily.
Ding Naiqing scratched his head. "I didn't see it—Ran Jie, watch out above!"
With that shout, Tu Ran, already on guard, reacted quickly. She raised her gun and fired into the sky while retreating rapidly.
A huge mouth came down right where she had been standing, filled with two rows of dense, sharp teeth like jagged saw blades.
If Tu Ran had been a step slower, she would have been decapitated by now.
Her continuous shots all went into its soft oral cavity.
Its scales were indestructible, impervious to weapons, but its mouth was its only weak point. That was the lesson Tu Ran had learned over the past few days while capturing hook-snake-type aliens.
The hook snake writhed on the ground in pain.
Tu Ran didn't give it a moment to catch its breath. She leaped directly onto its body, straddling it.
She aimed her gun at its mouth, which couldn't close due to pain, and fired countless times at close range.
The smell of blood filled the air; even through her glass visor, Tu Ran could smell it.
The hook snake twisted and struggled, and a stinger as thick as a human wrist at the end of its tail aimed at the back of Tu Ran's head, stabbing toward her.
Tu Ran seemed to have eyes in the back of her head. She whipped out the dagger hanging at her waist, its sharp blade flashing with a cold gleam, and met the hook snake's tail weapon, severing it in an instant.
"Hisss—" The hook snake's agonized cry pierced the sky.
Ding Naiqing, watching through the drone, took a deep breath.
Ran Jie was fierce, cool, and terrifying.
Tu Ran kept firing for another two minutes.
The hook snake's body was reduced to slight twitching.
Tu Ran looked down at the dying hook snake. "Do you have an inner core?"
The hook snake gave no response.
Tu Ran touched its scales, and in an instant, she read its memories.
No. In its memories, there was no such thing as an inner core at all.
By now, Tu Ran had full control over this superpower.
She could selectively read others' memories.
And if she had no intention of reading them, even if she touched them, she wouldn't get any memories.
Since this hook snake had no inner core, she could just dispose of it.
Yao Bei arrived belatedly, just in time to see Tu Ran stand up from the hook snake's neck.
The hook snake had completely stopped moving.
"Sister Yao, it's done," Tu Ran said, wiping the blood off her dagger that had severed the hook snake's tail, and she sheathed it at her waist.
Yao Bei was momentarily stunned. This was her first time working with Tu Ran. She hadn't expected this woman, who appeared unassuming and easygoing, to be so formidable.
"Good..." Yao Bei nodded, shifting her gaze from the hook snake's corpse to Tu Ran's face. "Are you hurt?"
"No," Tu Ran shook her head. "Your teammates are dead. You should team up with us from now on."
"That's the only option for now," Yao Bei said helplessly.
"Where to next?"
Ding Naiqing had already run down from the rooftop, carrying his equipment, and stood between the two women, grinning. He asked, "Where should we go next?"
