Developing Superpowers in Another World

"Misunderstanding? What misunderstanding? Didn't you say you saw me at the Black Market? Threatening me?" Tu Ran kicked him in the stomach, sending him to the ground.

He rolled over clumsily, scrambled to his knees, and pleaded, "I didn't see anything, I swear. I was just talking nonsense earlier. Don't take it to heart!"

"Hah, too late!" Tu Ran's voice was cold.

Wang Hui hadn't expected that the darkness would be his downfall, not his cover for wrongdoing, but the place where this woman would end his life.

Tu Ran stabbed his eyes twice in quick succession. "Don't look at what you shouldn't!"

Wang Hui's eyeballs burst instantly, blood spraying from the sockets. He covered his eyes in agony and rolled on the ground, his miserable screams echoing in the darkness.

"Before you die, let me tell you! I'm a Pioneer! You dare to act high and mighty in front of me? What do you think you are!"

"Spare me, spare me, I really didn't know you were a Pioneer..." Wang Hui, like a dying stray dog, kowtowed desperately at Tu Ran's feet. "Killing me won't do you any good. You've blinded me; that should be enough to vent your anger."

Tu Ran kicked him again, sending him flying, then sprinted over and plunged the dagger straight into his heart.

His cries stopped abruptly.

What was the point of blinding a pair of eyes? In this world, any lost organ could be replaced with machinery; mechanical eyes were even better than the originals.

A person was only truly dead when they stopped breathing.

Tu Ran pulled out the dagger.

The viscous blood slid off the blade, dripping to the ground one drop at a time.

It was already close to midnight, and this was an old neighborhood, so almost no one passed by.

All around was silent, so quiet she could faintly hear the sound of blood flowing.

She sheathed the dagger and turned to leave.

The corpse would be discovered by the residents tomorrow morning. After the police were called, Executive Department guards would come to investigate, but there were no surveillance cameras here, so they couldn't confirm the culprit.

If they pulled up footage from other sections of the road, they would see that she and that disgusting man had walked together the whole way, and since she lived in this neighborhood, she would become the prime suspect.

However, in the Federation, many people ended up dead on the streets every day. The Executive Department guards had limited manpower and countless cases to handle every day.

This meant they often decided how much effort to put into finding the culprit based on the victim's identity.

Tu Ran didn't think someone at the bottom of society like Wang Hui would make the guards waste effort pulling up surveillance from along the route.

Even if they did check the footage and saw that Wang Hui had followed her here, so what? Her identity was that of a Pioneer in the Federal Pioneer Team.

Without solid evidence, they couldn't touch her, couldn't even summon her to the Executive Department for questioning. Even for statements, they could only pick a time when she had nothing else to do.

As long as the Executive Department guards weren't stupid, they wouldn't go looking for trouble for themselves.

Back home, Tu Ran first rinsed the blood off the dagger, then stripped off her bloodstained clothes.

The clothes had cost three thousand federal credits, so there was no way she'd throw them away.

But once washed, she still felt that bloodstained clothes were a bit unclean, uncomfortable to wear.

After hesitating for three seconds, Tu Ran placed her hand on the clothes and activated "Wheel of Time."

She rewound time by half an hour.

A flash of white light passed, and the bloodstains on the clothes quickly faded.

In an instant, they were as good as new.

Tu Ran picked up the clean clothes and sniffed them—not a trace of the smell of blood.

She had only wound time back half an hour, so her body showed no signs of discomfort.

Satisfied, Tu Ran put the clothes away, grabbed her pajamas, and went to the bathroom for a shower.

Soaking in the bathtub, Tu Ran let out a comfortable sigh.

After half an hour in the tub, she changed into her pajamas, lay down on the bed, and quickly fell asleep.

She had to work tomorrow; she couldn't stay up late.

The next morning at seven o'clock, Tu Ran got up on time, ate a simple breakfast, changed, and went downstairs.

Downstairs, a crowd had already gathered, including Executive Department workers in guard uniforms.

Wang Hui's body had been discovered.

Through the gaps in the crowd, Tu Ran saw a large patch of blackened blood on the ground.

She only glanced at it briefly, then walked past without looking back.

She still had to catch the early tram.

Behind her, the guards' conversation drifted over.

Tu Ran listened closely.

"There are no cameras in this neighborhood."

"His name's Wang Hui. He often harassed women on the tram and had a long record. His parents can't be contacted, and he has no friends. Probably no one will even claim the body."

"This neighborhood is a resettlement site for Pioneers. A lot of them live here."

"The surrounding cameras might have clues. Let's..."

"Just write it up as a death report and have the relevant department take the body away. We still have to go to the next place."

"Oh, okay."

Tu Ran stepped out of the neighborhood gate, hearing the last sentence.

She curled her lips slightly. Just as she'd expected.

Arriving at the Administrative Building, it was exactly seven fifty.

There were many Pioneers coming and going, and a few of them looked familiar to Tu Ran.

"Pioneer Tu Ran, the head of the Pioneer Team has issued an order for all Pioneers to attend a meeting in Room 721."

"Alright."

Tu Ran accepted the order and turned toward the elevator.

Other Pioneers who had received the same task went up together with her. They all boarded the elevator and headed to the seventh floor.

Entering the meeting room, Tu Ran immediately noticed Zhao Yan. He was sitting five chairs away from Xie Zhao.

Within ten meters.

Tu Ran's eyelids twitched.

Could it be that Xie Xu hadn't told Xie Zhao about Zhao Yan's telepathy ability?

She silently walked to the back of the meeting room and sat down.

Zhao Yan saw her too, his gaze sweeping over her briefly before turning elsewhere.

Within ten minutes, Pioneers trickled in one after another.

Tu Ran spotted Ding Naiqing, whom she hadn't seen in a while.

He still looked like an innocent college boy.

Ding Naiqing didn't notice her sitting at the back. He walked straight toward Zhao Yan and casually pulled out the chair next to him, sitting down.

The two began chatting.

Because they were far apart and the room was noisy with voices, Tu Ran couldn't hear what they were saying.

But seeing Ding Naiqing talking with such enthusiasm, Tu Ran frowned.

Ding Naiqing and Zhao Yan were close?

At eight o'clock sharp, the meeting began.

Xie Zhao sat at the head of the table, hands folded on the surface, and started speaking.

"Everyone has probably heard from the news that recently a radical resistance organization developed a potion. They claim that drinking it will develop the human brain to three to five times its original capacity and grant superhuman abilities beyond physical limits."

"These supernatural abilities manifest in various ways, and I'm sure you've all seen them in the news."

"But according to data from the Research Institute, drinking this potion doesn't guarantee a hundred percent evolution of supernatural abilities."
