Apologies, Our Commander Is a Hexagonal Warrior

Her Daily Life

The fighter jet's canopy opened, and Xu Lingqu stepped out. The impact had injured her; blood trickled from a gash on her forehead, sticking to her face.

She held a combat knife in one hand and a gun in the other, wiping the blood away with the back of her hand.

The Zerg nest reeked, and the floor underfoot was coated in black-red slime. Xu Lingqu took stock of her surroundings.

The jet had blocked one of the nest's exit points for Zerg, slowing their deployment to the ground at Xiji City.

She advanced two steps, and a dark passage opened before her, leading to the lair of the Zerg Broodmother, the queen of this nest.

Xu Lingqu twirled her combat knife and moved swiftly down the passage. Every so often, a few Zerg serving the Broodmother emerged to stop her, but she dispatched them with quick, efficient strikes.

After about five minutes, light appeared at the end of the passage, revealing a massive pit.

Inside lay the Zerg Broodmother.

It was like a living hill. Sensing her approach, the thousands of eyes on its back snapped open in unison. It rose upright, a mountain before a human, its enormous maw gaping at Xu Lingqu. A piercing shriek accompanied a blast of wind that whipped her hair back.

The already excited audience felt their hearts leap again, and medical robots began distributing emergency heart medication.

Only a knife and a gun—how could she kill such a beast? Impossible!

"This time Sky Network really made the Zerg incredibly strong. Getting this far is already a miracle," Professor Zhuang said, shaking his head. "I never expected the Broodmother... to be this powerful."

"If I had the most advanced interstellar weapons and a mech, I'd scoff at this thing. But Xu Lingqu only has a knife and a gun," Senior Colonel Ren said grimly. "In a sense, she must kill this monster with her bare hands, a creature so much larger than her..."

"My heart is racing so fast I might pass out..." Lieutenant Quan clutched his chest. "How does Xu Lingqu do it? Facing a monster like this without even a flicker of expression..."

"That says a lot. Normal people would be scared witless; even cadets would instinctively fear it, and soldiers would at least flinch. But Xu Lingqu's face is unchanged," Teacher Chang said, folding his arms. "She's not afraid, which means she believes she can win. And Xu Lingqu has always been one to guarantee victory."

[Me: I'd faint at the sight. Just hope the Broodmother doesn't wake me before eating me!]

[AAAAHHHHHH how is Xu Lingqu so calm?! Or is she just calm on the outside, heart racing inside?]

[I think she must be feeling something. If not, I'd suspect she's a cyborg...]

[Okay, psychologists, stop analyzing her inner world and just watch the league. Don't know if Xu Lingqu's heart is racing, but I'm about to puke from nerves!]

[Huh, weird—why do I feel like the Broodmother is the one afraid of Xu Lingqu?]

Xu Lingqu did feel something.

But the emotions surging within her weren't fear or dread; they were excitement and a thirst for blood.

Fighting a monster this massive with only a knife and a gun was a pipe dream for humans of the interstellar age. But for the Supreme Law Enforcer of Lake Arden, it was just another day at work.

Xu Lingqu had long been accustomed to hunting monsters this way. Taking the knife to this Broodmother gave her a sense of familiarity she hadn't felt in a while.

This body couldn't match her Evolved body's physicality, but it was more than enough to kill this Zerg.

As the Broodmother shrieked and postured at her, Xu Lingqu lunged forward. With one hand, she fired several rounds in quick succession, each shot hitting the mother's eye. It thrashed in pain and rage, extending a leg to cleave Xu Lingqu in two.

A loud crack echoed—but the thing split in two wasn't Xu Lingqu...

It was the creature's leg!

Xu Lingqu, gripping her combat blade, blocked the attack and severed the leg cleanly!

She didn't stop there. A grappling hook shot from her gear, embedding deep into the Broodmother's body. She hit the trigger, and the cable retracted with force, yanking her almost into flight toward the beast.

The Broodmother refused to let her get close again. It thrashed wildly, wrenching the part of its body the hook had pierced, sending Xu Lingqu flying. The retraction stopped abruptly as she slammed into a nearby wall, the impact so strong it left a crater in the surface...

Xu Lingqu's body crumpled to the ground.

That detestable little human—surely that killed it?

The Broodmother sighed in relief, then moved to gobble up the fallen figure.

But just then, Xu Lingqu stood up.

She used her blade as a crutch, hauling herself to her feet. The wound on her forehead was worse now, blood pouring again, staining half her face. Her body was clearly battered, her clothes a mess of disgusting black-red slime and her own blood.

But she seemed utterly oblivious to her injuries. She pressed the grappling hook's button again. This time, the distance was short enough that the rapid retraction would carry her right to the Broodmother.

This terrifying human—the mother tried to repeat its trick, flinging her off and smashing her to pulp. But this time, Xu Lingqu's combat knife was already buried deep into its flesh.

The searing pain made it thrash and howl, desperate to escape the torment this nightmare of a human brought. But Xu Lingqu held the blade tight, and its own struggles only helped her slice open half its body.

Unformed Zerg eggs spilled from the wound, and the creature's struggles grew weaker until it collapsed, limp. Seeing this, Xu Lingqu pulled out her knife, climbed onto its body, crawled to its head, and fired several shots, obliterating its skull entirely.

In under ten minutes, Xu Lingqu had slain the Zerg Broodmother.

Above, the nest stopped producing new Zerg.

On the ground, humans still fighting for their lives looked up at the sky. Their resistance had achieved initial success. Shen Shouli shot down a Zerg that lunged at him.

Xu Lingqu had succeeded. But now, how would she get down from there alive?
